Well, it has been 9 weeks since my PVP. Urine flow is not much better than
before the surgery unless I take Flomax. Went back to the URO yesterday and
he said to let's wait for 6 mos. and see how it goes as long as I can go
taking the Flomax. He said this surgery was not always 100% sucessful and I
may be one of those few. Any of you had anything like this happen? Just
does not seem right from all I have read on this message board.

Hi,

What helped me rather dramatically was accupuncture...if you can find a good
accupuncturist. There's a meridian behind the knee that somehow kicks up the
healing energy. It may be different for you, or a combination of different
points, but I would give it a try rather than accept the 6 month scenario.

Buford, did your Uro explain why pvp does not always work?  Did you have
good flow at any time after the procedure?

I ask because my flow was excellent after the procedure, but now, three
weeks later it is about the same as it was before pvp. I also still need
Flomax as I did before pvp.

I have a follow up on May 9th, and I shall be interested to hear what my
uro says.

One thing he did say before the op was that it often took 3 months before
significant improvement was seen.

What my URO said was that the muscle around the prostate was tighter on
some men than others and this is why Flomax is still needed in some because
the Flomax relaxes that muscle. I keep hoping I will get a better flow as
time goes on but I am rather disappointed at this stage.

I am at 6 weeks recovery and off of Hytrin, but the flow is only
somewhat better than pre PVP. I have some (minor) pain during urination.
My uro says wait 4 months for full results. He says that about 10% of
cases show this slow improvement..

Good Luck

I have a co-worker that sailed through this like a champ with no problems
whatsoever but I guess I am in that 10% also.

Buford...I had a TURP over three weeks ago (not a PVP), but I can sympathize
with you. My post on the TURP is dtd 4/24/05 (you may have read it).  I am
10 times worse than before and can not tolerate the pain, burning, and
discomfort (including in my rectum), and the constant urge (non stop 24
hours) that I have to go, even though I don't have to go.  Can't eat, can't
sleep and can't take opiates since they constipate me all to hell.  I can
pee (not great) during the day after drinking quite a bit, but by the latter
part of the day and night I can hardly go at all (I believe due to the
inflammation building up).  I can tell you this - the TURP I just had for
the little bit of BPH, plus the scar tissue from a TUIP (that's right TUIP)
in 1995, has definitely aggravated my prostatitis, so now I am suffering
from both the surgery and a worsened prostatitis, and I do not believe I am
healing properly.

Have been back to both the surgeon and the office PA (in the last 2 weeks),
and all I got is "wait" from the surgeon, and the PA said "you don't get
better" and "If I was a surgeon I wouldn't have operated on you" (since I
used to see him for my prostatitis prior to the surgery).  Its nice to know
they care. Each  visit they said to come back in 3 months - Right!!!  I am
getting worse not better.  There is nothing I can do but suffer, its
unbelievable.  I am taking my anti's on my own as a prophylactic, and
praying I get better.  I feel like I can't go on.

Sorry for ragging on you guys.  It is a son of a bitch.  Once your cut, its
too late.  But I felt I needed the surgery since I was having trouble peeing
and I can't take Flomax or Hytrin (alpha blockers plug my nose up
completely).  I don't think I have an infection, since I don't have a fever,
but it is the worse type of pain you can imagine.  If I go to the ER they
will just take some blood, do a flat view x-ray, and send me home and tell
me to go see my uro.  Like I wrote before all the uros are in the same room
where I live, so I have to go out of town to see another one (I have made an
appt with one) - but what can he do - he can't cut me again.  These are hard
things to deal with.

Buford, I wish you the best.  If Flomax helps you, then take it.  I wish I
could....Pete

Glad to hear that you've made an appointment with another uro - if for no
other reason than to obtain an independent opinion regarding pain
management.  In this day and age you should NOT have to suffer as profoundly
as you obviously are.

Best of luck to you.

Pete,  So sorry to hear that you are still in pain week after TURP. Wish
you will be getting better soon.  Go to find other uro for second opinion.
Anyway, your post still can help other BPH patients to double think of
having TURP.  I am taking flomax, cardular for years.  Will see a new uro
for considering to have PVP.                  Pat

I thought I was having problems until I read your post. I pray you get
better.
