I had my PVP done on Monday. They were running late and I almost backed
out. Things are progressing quite well and I was playing piano last
night at choir rehearsal (yes, you can play piano post
PVP.....hahahaha). Very little pain and flow is good, Can't sit for
real long periods.

Doc prescribed Hydocodone, Levaquin, and Pyridium, but no alpha blocker
post-surgery. I saw some of you had one precribed. Is that the usual??

So glad I drove the 3 hours......this was a cinch compared even to my
laproscopic gall-bladder and 1/1000 the pain of the repair I had on the
rotator cuff.

Would be unusual for an alpha blocker to be prescribed after a PVP.  That is
why you had the PVP done, to create a better channel for strong flow.  The
alpha blocker is to relax the muscles so the you can get a better, albeit,
not good flow.

My URO left the decision up to me saying that the alphablockers were
necessary if the flow was diminished.  So at 8 weeks after PVP, I am off
the Uroxatral since flow is good. When I had the TUMT last July, I went
back on Uroxatral after the procedure because the flow was very dimished
due to swelling.

4 weeks after PVP had pain at end of urination plus other issues (general
nausea, bloating, inflammation). Was prescribed Flomax because it relieved
symptoms by URO's PA. It helped for a week or so but since then the burning
diminished and I felt the Flomax made me too dizzy. According to PA it was
to relieve symptoms more that to help the flow.

I'm now exactly 3 weeks post PVP.  My experience was the same as yours -
basically zero pain after the first two voidings.  And no, my uro did not
prescribe alpha blockers.

In my case, I was on alpha blockers before the PVP, so my uro prescribed
that I should taper off them over 8 weeks.  I think it depends if you
had previously been on them or not.
