I am seven weeks post PVP still having problem with urine flow. Is this
normal? Seems like most of the posts indicate quicker relief.

Am 8 weeks post PVP.  Flow is good.  The biggest thing that I face is
when I get up from the recliner or from laying on the couch to
read--then have this big time urgency to go right now!!!  That one
hasn't cleared up yet.  URO says that kegels should help, but not so
far.  Do have retro because the bladder neck was incised.  Waiting to
see if that improves or remains as is now.

Buford...

Did your URO say anything about the bladder neck obstruction?  My
understanding is that the bladder neck may obstruct flow even though the
urethral channel is cleared with PVP.  In my case, on cystoscopy he
stated he would do a bladder neck sparing PVP, but when he did the
actual procedure, he found more bladder neck problems and then incised
it.  My flow is good but I do have retro.  Not sure whether that will
change or not.

The only thing he said about my bladder was that it was small and he
stretched it.

Buford,

From what my urologist has explained, it can take several months for things
to improve. You do not say what the problem is that you having with flow. I
assume you mean poor flow all the time.

I have heard that in a few cases the prostate will bulge into the urethra
following pvp, requiring a little more surgery to correct.

What has your urologist said about this?

I have a follow up on 4/28. He said if I was still have a weak urine flow
he was going to have to scope me again to see what the problem was. I do
fine taking Flomax but it is just like before surgery, if I quit taking
them it is like shutting the water almost off.

At 7 weeks Post-PVP I was still in a heap of trouble.....pain,
frequency....urgency.
After about 9-10-weeks improvement started setting in. In 90 days I was out
of the woods.

Don't be distarcted by the PVP recovery hype from Laserscope or its
cheerleaders. This surgery can take quite a while to fully recover from. It
is traumatic. Think of what's happening with that laser....'vaporizing
tissue.' It is not entirely bloodless. Each person recovers at a different
rate.

Good Luck,

Marcus
