I had my three year post-PVP followup with Dr. Te last week. Nothing
remarkable to report.  Flow strong, AUA BPH symptom score at 0, no residual,
no retro.  PSA is up a little from last year from 1.6 to 2.0  That might
mean prostate continues to enlarge, but given no BPH symptoms, no need to do
anything but get annual exams.

Best wishes to all of you for good health,

Patrick

Good to know our "veteran" is still symptom-free. Jim W.

But Jim,
The word "veteran" makes him sound old.
The guy's just a young whipper snapper. But a nice one.
My PSA's gone up a bit too. We got to figure out how to keep the damn thing
from growing.

Thanks for the updates, Patrick.  I appreciate what you have contributed
to this newsgroup. The information has been most helpful to us newbies
who have had PVPs recently or are considering the procedure.

One question...you do not have retro now.  Did you ever have retro after
the PVP?  My PVP was done 2/23/05 and definitely have retro.  Is it
likely to change?  Thanks.

Patrick,  Thank you for so many inputs to help those new comers of BPH.
I am ont of them and going to make appointment with Dr. Te soon.  My
insurance is UnitedHealthCare but Dr. Te is not within the network. Can you
give me a general idea of the cost of having PVP?  His secretary told me
they do take Unitedhealthcare.  What that means?

Pat,
I really don't know how much the PVP cost.  At the time I was covered by
Cigna insurance company and, at the time, the PVP was considered an
"in-network Prosectomy".   It was completely covered by insurance.  I don't
know how much was actually paid by my insurance company to the doctor,
hospital nor anestesolgist.

You can asked Dr. Te's staff  and your insurance company what is covered and
what is not.  One thing I do know is that now PVP is covered by most
insurance companies.  At the time of my surgury it was too new a procedure
to have its own procedure code. But now it is Medicare approved.

I still wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Te. He is one of the most experienced
PVP surgeons in the world and a very thorough physician who gets at the root
cause of your problems and has all the tools to deal with them in the most
benefical way.

Good luck to you and I wish you complete success in ridding yourself of BPH.

Regards,

Patrick

If I read your post correctly - generally "out of network" means that
you will pay a higher precentage than if he was "in network", but since
you indicate that he does take United Health Care, they will pay at
least some part of it, and it will probably be based on the reduced rate
that insurance companies pay.  You really need to ask your insurance
company, they are all different, and the same insurance company can have
many different contracts.  You also need to read your own booklet.

Patrick & Al,

Thank you for your prompt and detailed response.  I have read a lot of
your postings here and indeed benefit a lot. Appreciated! The only regret
was I did not find your guys' postings earlier.

I already made an appointment with Dr. Te in NY days ago.  After that I
found out Dr. Te is within my Unitedhealthcare network.  The reason that I
can not find his name before was that there is bug in it's search function
at myuhc.com.  Anyway, looking forward to seeing Dr. Te now.

Here is my brief BPH history.  I am 50+.  I took Cardular since 99 for 2
years, then switched to Flomax in 02, and added another Proscar since 03.
In past 6 years ( I should did PVP as early as Patrick did in 02), I had
numerous uroflow tests, 3 biopsys, 3 cyctoscopes and one useless TherMatrx
DOT in Sep. 04. Wasting money is ont thing, costing our health and time is
another.  Foutunately, I finally found your guys' precious advices and now
proceed to PVP.  Will share my PVP experience in the future.  Hope it can
help many otheres.

Good luck to you.  Dr. Te is a fine doctor and he will take good care of
you.  Hope everything goes well and your BPH symptoms are fully relieved.

Patrick,

Thanks and many thanks.  After June's visit, maybe need to wait months
to have PVP.  Talk to you later.

Best Regards

Patrick, I had my PVP in Santa Barbara seven weeks ago, and have retro.
Did you have retro and then it reversed?  PVP for me has been great.
