Does PVP really outnumber TURP? My experience is that the majority of
doctors still do not have access to PVP equipment. My URO told me that PVP
was not much different than TURP. I searched and switched to a URO that
does PVP (He does not agree that they are similar).
I suppose the question is does "Gold Standard" mean quantity or quality.
Someone posted, from the Laserscope site it think, that 50,000 PVP had been
done up until December 2004. Not bad considering that Laserscope says that
the FDA approved the Green Light laser in May 2001.
A post 1/25/05 "Re: PVP with Dr. Lin" From "Bill" had an interesting
reference where his Uro told him that TURP was the Gold Standard. After
switching to Dr. Lin and getting the PVP he considers PVP the Gold Standard.
From what I also read, some may not like one of the side effects of PVP. I
recently read that the chance of Retro is much greater with PVP than with
say TUNA.

Rich,
My experience is that quality will turn into quantity at least for
Bph surgery. That is probably right as to retro with PVP as compared to Tuna
but mind reversed itself after about a year.

That is my thought too. I only question the original post that PVP
outnumbered TURP by 3 to 1.
I suppose it is fortunate that most of us are of ages where retro is not all
that important (Personally I wish that retro was important to me :-)
