My prostate is big - about 150 g, probably too big for a TURP. I've
started consulting with an out-of-town uro re PVP. So far, he is
saying he could do it, but can't predict the result... might need
another PVP soon after the first.

This suggests I should consider an open prostatectomy. Info from the
web is all over the place regarding days in hospital, days with
catheter, results, side effects, etc.

Please post any actual experiences with this procedure.

The reason that your uro, as mine did, recommends open surgery instead
of a TURP is bleeding. The more he cuts, and there is more cutting with
a large prostate, the more surface there is to bleed. My prostate was
100-125 g (before and after surgery estimates) and I elected to try
laser surgery from another uro which was successful. The difference is
that a laser cauterizes as it cuts. In addition to shorter hospital
stay and recovery, there are less bad results (limp noodle) than with
open surgery.

Good luck
