Undetected infection??

I started developing BPH symptoms (urgency, retention, feeling of
incomplete voiding, etc) last october, I started taking Flomax in
December after a urine analysis, urine culture, general blood panel and
a cystoscopy (sp?). The Flomax seemed to help and the symptoms got much
less.

On January 21 I started taking Doxycycline for 42 days as an anti
malarial precaution for our trip to the Amazon. The symptoms continued
to grow less and in the first week of February I started having a real
problem with leakage. I stopped the Flomax which solved the leakage
problem. Meanwhile my BPH symptoms continue to be much reduced.

I'm thinking that the Doxycycline may have cured an infection that
wasn't detected by the Uro's tests. Anyone have any experience with such
a thing? Is it possible? I'd read somewhere that a semen culture should
also be performed to rule out infection that otherwise doesn't show up.

Thoughts?/

TIA

My Uro told me I had a 40g prostate with some bladder impingement and
that he also saw signs of inflammation when he did the cycstoscopy. As
it happened, the day that I had the cycstoscopy, I was having a very
good day with no BPH symptoms.

It turns that out my BPH symptoms was due to an infection also.  I have
absolutely no idea how I got one, but that was my diagnosis.  My uro put
me on Cipro (and Flomax) for a month.  Along with Advil (Ibuprofen) to
reduce inflammation, no acidic juices (e.g. orange juice), and not more
than one cup of coffee per day.  Flow has been improving quite a bit
after just a day.

Wolf:  it may be helpful to read this guy's blog...You'll have to scroll
down to find the stuff on Prostatitis but it it concise.  Lots of other
causes, but worth checking it out if you have a few minutes...Something
there may be useful, or not?!   All the best to you.. See:
