Hi All

Report on January 18 PVP with Dr Lin.

Up until February 18 the recovery was going along just fine with no problems
.  On Feb 18th I passed blood just before going to bed.  I went to bed and a
couple of hours later I had to go.  I found that the flow was completely
blocked so I headed for the ER at 2 AM.  They put in a catheter to allow to
me to drain out and kept me for the night.  In the morning a Urologist came
in and looked at me, changed the catheter to a larger size, and flushed out
my bladder, then sent me home.  He said if it blocked up I would have to
come back.  At 2 PM the same day the catheter plugged up and I was back in
the ER.  I left at 6 PM and got through the weekend.  On Monday Feb 21 Dr
Lin removed the catheter and things were ok.

On Feb 25 I passed some blood and a clot and then things were OK.

On March 3 I passed some blood and a clot and then things were OK.  I talked
with Dr Lin and He said it was ok and to drink lots of water, something I
had been doing

On March 4th at 5 PM I passed a lot of blood.  Twenty minutes later I passed
a clot and more blood and that kept on passing blood and clots till 11 PM.
Dr Lin is out of the country right now so I went to the ER, again.  That was
my 5th trip.  There were 2 before surgery and now 3 after.

They did blood work and the results were perfect.  My clotting time was
better than normal, something the ER Dr. said was very unusually.  At 4 AM I
was still passing blood and an occasional clot.  After a conference with a
Urologist it was decided to send me home and see what developed over the
weekend.  So now I am in the watchful waiting mode and still passing blood
and the occasional clot.

My question to the group is this.  I had a 150 gm prostate and the surgery
took 2 hours.  That is quite big.  I have tried to be careful with what I
have done in regards to lifting etc.  I decided it was too early to try sex.

Is there anyone else out there with a prostate my size that has had PVP and
the same type of problems with all of this bleeding and clots.

I look forward to your thoughts.

sorry about your experiences, but with a 150er the healing would be more
extensive.  from information received in past years, i believe that one that
size would  have resulted in a removal of the prostate (prior to pvp).  you
are in an unusually high bracket.  mine was 105, and it was higher than
average.  i had some clotting pass thru, but no blockage.

Bill,
I had 7 & a half wks of bloody urine & clots after my first PVP, 3 and a
half hr surg [also w large prostate], with several experiences of retention.
I also had a stricture (inside the penis) from the surgery that wasn't
opened up until about 6 wks post-op. the penis sometimes got bent until
urine & clots could flow through the more narrow channel.

Ron

Did you have a period of clear urine after your PVP and before the weeks of
blood and clots started?

Bill,
There were periods of clear urine. But most times, it was dark, bloody
urine.
Then, about 10 months later, after a DRE, the bleeding started again. This
clinched it for me to have another PVP to clear things up.

Hello Bill,

Sorry to hear about your problems. I had a 2 hr PVP in August on a
135g prostate.

You seem to be having a more distressing version of a bleeding episode
which I experienced 3 months after the PVP.

After a good recovery I passed a very large clot in November and then
had bleeding on and off for a further 3 weeks, slowly diminishing.

Since then I have had no more problems. The Uro thought it was a scab
coming away and not a burst blood vessel.

Hopefully yours are now all out.

Larger prostates seem to have more post-op problems from what I have
read on this group.

All the best   Richie
