I am going to see a new urologist in a week and a half......one who
does do the PVP procedure. I am urinating 10-14 times a day and am
quite uncomfortable.

I was wondering, I am 54 and am in reasonably good health, how long
would the  recovery time be to do something simple like play the
organ/piano for church? ( If my case was an average case?)

>From what I see the PVP seems to be the most recommended procedure and
doesn't have the burning the microwave process does.
WOuld most agree with that???

Not certain what you mean by burning.  Microwave TUMT is less invasive but
requires longer to take effect and is not as successful as PVP.  There
apparently have been sevearl improvements in past two or three years.  It is
considered non surgical and is done in the Dr. office.

PVP burns away the tissue immediatly.

There are lots ot web sites that describe both procedures:

I had PVP a week ago and sat down and played the piano two days later.
There was no problem.

It would take many years before you could play the organ/piano for
church.  Unless you already know how before the PVP.  ;-)

I know that writing in the snow after PVP is an art form, but exactly how
this works on the piano keys - I can't quite visualize :)

Are you sure your frequency is due to BPH?  I thought mine was but the uro
diagnosed overactive bladder (my prostate is only 20 g although I have a
small median lobe) and put me on Ditropan.  It has helped but not as much as
I'd like.

Recovery time, as we have learned from contributors to this newsgroup, is
quite variable. Some folks respond in a few days, some take months for a
complete recovery. As far as playing music / chess......the question is not
whether it can be done, but how long will you can go before needing to make
a pit-stop.

Patient:  Doctor, how long after the PVP procedure will it be before I can
play the piano?

Uro:     Two to three days.

Patient:  That's great. I have always wanted to be able to play the piano.
