Meprobamate may still be available.. in the UK ... I sure do not know
But if it is just take an Aspirin and you have Equagesic ...

Been at least 15 years since I even saw an Equagesic Tablet
been a while since I even dispensed Meprobamate ...

I have not seen Equagesic (Wyeth, Meprobamate),
prescribed at all in many many years in the US.

It was often given for headaches and there are now
many better medications for that use.  It is interesting
to note that Soma's active metabolite is meprobomate
and that Soma recently was scheduled in the US as
a controlled substance Schedule IV.

When was soma scheduled.  I have not heard about that.  It should be... but
in most states it is not.

I am sorry that I don't have the specifics, I could probably spend some
time on the web and find out that info but you probably could too.  I
heard this first from a pharmacy student friend of mine.  I did not know
at the time that meprobamate was an active metabolite of Soma.

I had mentioned to him that it never worked for me as a muscle relaxant
and he told me it was essentially a meprobomate effect.  I am not sure
that even though meprobomate is its active metabolite that it is indeed
metabolized by the liver in such a form as to be efficatious, it just never
worked for me.  Anyway, the DEA scheduled it as IV.  When compounded
with Codeine phosphate it is a Shedule III.  That is about all I know about
it.

I understand that Soma compound without codeine,
became a DEA federally controlled Substance
Schedule IV on 7/1/04.

Ok - not that it really matters but I believe you are misinformed.
Here is a link to the DEA schedules on the DEA's website
http://www.dea.gov/pubs/scheduling.html

If carisoprodol or anything else for that matter is in a compound with
codeine it would be controlled -
because of the codeine.

And as for meprobamate, I still see prescritions for it at my independent
retail pharmacy in Texas.

Soma is not a schedule IV drug.
In Texas we hafta inventory it as though it is controlled but it has yet to
be so designated.

Thanks for the info Brad.  I understand, after calling a PharmD friend of
mine that is in research at the Medical College of Va that it is indeed to
be Scheduled IV.  I am not sure when it takes effect but according to
my friend, who is a lot smarter than I and much more in touch with
the regulatory community that it is indeed going to be scheduled, probably
at the end of the year or when it is convenient for the pharmacy industry.

Thanks again for the correction,

Best regards,

Patrick
