Have any of you in your practice encountered a shortage of the 50 and 75
mcg strengths?

Yes, they are on manufacturers back order...as well as the 100mcg.  I have
been getting a very limited supply.

I was told that the manufacturer is changing the delivery system somehow to
prevent people from removing the drug from the patch and taking it by other
methods (ie orally).
That may be the reason for the slow down in production.

fentanyl has oral transmucosal activity (ie,lollipop, lozenge) but
isn't used orally

They are not supposed to take it orally from the patch, but believe it or
not, some people don't alway do what they are supposed to.
Any way, I saw today that the Duragesics are no longer on the back order
list from our secondary supplier.
