> what exactly do consultant/clincial pharmacists do?
they consult.
I depends.
Some consultant pharmacist consult with nursing homes-they check on the
medication records, supply medications etc to nursing homes.
Other consultant pharmacists (i'm one of them) advise out-patient surgery
centers on their medical records, get them drugs etc.
Clinical pharmacists usually work in hospitals. They can be associated with
medical teams, they might round with doctors and answer the many drug related
questions that come up, for example, determine theophylline dosing based on
theophylline leves, watch for drug-drug interactions for hospitalized patients
etc. Other clinical pharmacists in hospitals may work in the drug information
departments of the hospital, answering questions from the medical, nursing
staff and from patients.
A clinical pharmacist may also work in a poison control center helping patients
with poisoning questions.
