Hi,

my GP just gave me a single script with 3 meds on it (nothing
particularly interesting, nothing schedule etc)... and at the same time
gave me a month supply (sample box) of one of them (lipitor)... and I've
got a month supply of lopressor (one of the others... been taking it for
years now)... but she's adding a 2nd blood pressure med.

so I've already GOT 2 of the 3....

so I'd like to get that 1 now... and wait until I'm out of the other 2
before filling (and paying for) them.

but is there a time limit on how long I can hold onto this script? do I
need to get them all filled (and just leave the 2 I've already got
sitting there while I use up the older stock)... or can the pharmacist
fill the one, hold the script, then fill the other 2 later?

ttyl

I am assuming you are in the US.

Scripts for non-controlled drugs expire one year from the date on the Rx.
(State legislatures can reduce the time until expiration. I am unaware of
a state that shortens it for non-controlled drugs, but there certainly
could be some.)

You don't need to fill all of them. (Again, state law could vary, and
there may be some state with very strange laws, but I doubt any have a law
saying that the other two need to be filled or the scripts become invalid.
I certainly don't know the laws for all 50 states though.)

Every pharmacy I know would gladly fill one of the three and hold the
other scripts for you to be filled any time before they expire. You'd
probably be hard pressed to find one that is unwilling to do the same.
