ATACAND (Candesartan) Question - Help!

Hi,

My grampa is on ATACAND, an ACE inhibitor for high blood pressure. The
problem is that he has to take 1/2 a tablet everyday and he's having a hard
time breaking them in half especially since he has arthritis - I'll also
admit that I have a hard time breaking them and the last time I tried, the
tablet broke into 100 pieces. Right now he won't even take the tablets.

Does anyone know of an EASY way to break these suckers in half without
shattering them? Or if there is a better dosage form available?

Thanks!

Are you doing it by hand, or using a tablet splitter? Splitters can be
purchased for a couple of dollars and work much better than using a knife
or razor blade on a table top.

It is available in 4, 8, 16, and 32mg tablets, and for what it's worth
(not much I suppose) Atacand is not actually an ACE Inhibitor. It's an
angiotensin II receptor blocker, or ARB.

Thanks alot!

I'll look into getting a tablet splitter. And thanks for correcting my info
about the difference between ACE inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor
blockers.

Cheers
