Rockport seems to be all that I am able to wear.
I can't even wear tennis shoes at home anymore without waking up with sore
feet.
Yes I imagine I've injured some plantar muscle through standing all day
long.
But I doubt it will heal completely as long as I am working.  I am currently
rapping my feet with tape before work.  It does me wonders but is tedious.
When the inflammation stops, I will not wear anything other than Rockport.
Sadly they don't make Rockport slippers.

So.
What are you people wearing?

I have some major metatarsal issues ( ball of feet ).  They are very
unstable and when I walk or stand my body weight falls directly on my
metatarsals. They become inflamed and throb etc.

I have had custom made orthotics (by a podiatrist) which takes all weight
of my metatarsals and shifts it to the rest of my foot (actually feet).
Costly @$500.00 but they have made a drastic difference.

I wear SAS (san antonio shoe company) shoes.  They are a very supportive
walking shoe.  It is difficult dress shoes that my orthotics fit into.
These are not stylish at all walking shoes but you know I disagree with
Fernando (from SNL).  Fernando always says its how you look.,.. not how you
feel daahling.  I don't look so hot when I am grimacing in pain

I have been retired for the last 5 years ...so I can tell
you what standing on your feet all day every day can do...(Oh my aching
feet)....

Anyway I now  use special orthotics also makes a world of difference and
honestly screw the cost...

When I was working full time I wore only Rockport loafers (4 identical
pair...which I rotated daily..and when the time came I sent them back to
Rockport to be rebuilt)

My major mistake was that by doing this I ended up with 4 pair of worn out
shoes..at the same time... I should have just used 2 pairs and cycled in a
new or rebuilt pair as I went along..... and I should have been seeing a
Podiatrist
on a regular basis over the years...

I'm not a pharmacist and I don't stand on my feet all day, but even so I
managed to develop plantar fasciitis a couple of years ago.  I think it was
a result of buying some walking shoes on sale, which felt comfortable at
the time but not quite right when I walked in them.  I should have paid
attention to what my feet were telling me!  Anyhow, my feet would burn when
I stood around for a while or walked around slowly (as in shopping) and
hurt like hell when I first got up in the morning.

I visited a podiatrist and got fitted with a pair of custom orthotics.
Expensive, but IME worth it.  After wearing them for about 8 months, the
problem was gone.  Now I customarily wear Asics Gel Cumulus running shoes,
which seem to be designed for my feet.

I haven't had any serious foot problems--thank goodness. But if I was
in your shoes ( no pun intended) I'd visit a good podiatrist.

Don't know who's available in the Canton area, but I do know a good
one over in Ashland.

Acor  Diabetic Shoes and heat-molded inserts - the best shoes I've ever had.
The first pair was free to me and all of my staff that attended a seminar on
fitting the shoes. This is the best line of products I've ever put into the
store.

New Balance Outdoor Walking Shoes are my favorite (brown color matches most of
my khakis).

I do, however, work midnights and occasionaly have a chancve to sit for minutes
at a time (usually a customer comes in when I'm sitting for at least 5
minutes).

Oh yeah, they're waterproof. A couple of pink stains from Amoxil suspension...

Naot makes wonderful clogs and sandals that are great to stand in for
hours. Also Dansko. I wear Naot and Dansko all the time. I discovered them
when I was doing my surgical rotations during my first pregnancy and they
saved me.

If you have the money, and are looking for something stylish, I have one
pair of Taryn Rose shoes that are SO COMFORTABLE I could just die. Dr.
Rose, the designer, is an orthopedic surgeon. FWIW. They're really
expensive though.

Oh yeah... I pushed a bar stool by my computer station and sit as much as
possible.  I don't concentrate too well if I am writhing in pain

Rockport #3838 ("California Squash", so-called); it's a soft-side
leather shoe with a rubber sole. Unfortunately they discontinued it,
after I've worn out about six pairs over the years (all of which got a
new Vibram sole before they wore to the point where it was uneconomical
to repair further), and I dunno what to try next.

But I think that a good pair of orthotics are more important
((http://www.footlevelers.com/Index.cfm are the ones I've been using).
Somewhat costly (first pair about $240, refills about $140), but three
years ago I was walking with a cane due to plantar fasciitis (and which
foot do you limp on when they both hurt...?) and now I only need it if
I've been going around barefoot for too long. See your podiatrist (I got
mine from a chiropractor, of all weird places.) The only drawback is
that they feel like you're walking with golf balls stuffed in your
shoes, until stuff moves around in your foot: took me about 3 days to
get used to that.

Shalom
