Albert Zanney, PharmD - 06 Nov 2003 13:25 GMT Mr. Gilbreath,
You may make some good points about the utility of the PDR vs other drug references, but whatever message you have is drowned out by the anger and smug arrogance your words ooze. For example,
>Hmmm, no thanks, that's still too much to pay for a doorstop! You must have been thinking about the book
>OK, then, we'll use the CD ROM for a coaster! How's that! I'm sure the seller wouldn't care what you used it for -- but why would you want to buy it?
>As for the "C U L8R!", little child, I have used that since 1982 Little child? What arrogance! You could learn a lesson in humility from an actual little child.
>to confuse patients and those to ignorant to ask someone Perhaps I should send my small children over to explain to you the difference between to, too and two.
>not even translated into non-scientific terms that idiots >can understand, hence, it confuses them! You obviously think a lot of the lay public.
>PDR is good for absoultely nobody with a health care professional license
>...PDR....It was always meant for physicians, aka M.D.s, D.O.s Somewhat contradictory statements, don't you think?
>you probably have one that reads "IMAHIKDOK" ..just too much to take from a professional person

>>you probably have one that reads "IMAHIKDOK" >..just too much to take from a professional person Well Mr. Zanney, IF (very big IF) you had bothered to pull your nose out of the air long enough, you MIGHT would have read the entire dialogue between myself and the "country doctor". As for sending your small children over, please don't, I have 3 children of my own, plus a step-daughter, a grand-daughter and another grand child on the way. As for the typographical errors, big whoopee! You could tell exactly what I meant. Was I being contradictory when I told the country doc who the PDR was for? Think about it. Oh, and for the Rx student...go study, it's way past your bedtime! I almost fired off a heated reply, but decided against it. I do not wish to be accused of inflicting mental anguish on those like yourself and Rx student who have overcame great disadvantage when it comes to cognitive thinking abilities. What it boils down to is this...the PDR has outlived its usefulness. It's as simple as that. When the spammers stop posting on the newsgroups about "I just found XXX at an unbelievable price!", then I won't need to reply about the inferiority of the product! Goodbye. >>Mr. Gilbreath, One last item...in the future, YOU should address me as Doctor Gilbreath, thank you very much! Others on the list may continue to refer to me as Glenn, or Wiz. But, since you insist on being exactly correct in your too, two, to, etc., I must insist you address me by my proper designation. Glenn H. Gilbreath, Jr. Doctor of Pharmacy
Normally I have no need for the title, I like RPh just as well. But, you desire to flash "PharmD", so please use a bit of humility yourself when addressing your peers.

Basically, that I shared your opinions... BUT the more I wrote the more it became clear that I should not post it . So I did not. !
My Wife had our checks printed up with P.D. after my name at one time and when asked what it stood for I always replied PRETTY DUMB ! Next batch of checks had it removed...
Hope you enjoy your grandchildren as much as I do mine...

>Bob Griffiths Hi Bob, Yes, I enjoy my granddaughter immensely! Always brings a smile to my face when my daughter and her come visit at the pharmacy. She figured out that Grandpa Glenn keeps candies under one of the counters, hehe! "You have candy, Grandpa?" Of course, I keep the local dentists in business, hehe. I never did have my degree or designation printed on anything until the company I worked for ordered business cards for all of its pharmacists...it has it on there. I still prefer to just be called Glenn...or Wiz! I was being called "Doc" a long time ago, before the PharmD was a serious consideration...I just can't bring myself to refer to myself as a "doctor". Seems like you are just trying to make yourself more important than you actually are. Have a good weekend! C U L8R! There was certainly no need for you to go to the trouble of >confirming this. I confirmed nothing of the sort! If anyone has came across as "arrogant", it is yourself! This is a newsgroup...there are certainly more than a few typographical errors in most posts. The only time I ask for clarification is when it concerns a drug name or generic which may be confused with another similar looking/sounding name. Oh, and PLEASE...remove the "alt.drugs" and other newsgroups from the posts. I do not normally even read, let alone post, to those groups. You do know how to trim the groups to post to, don't you? And can you trim excessive headers, as well as unneeded quotes? Good! The fact that Dr. Galebreath DPh doesn't read alt.drugs is just too bad -- a number of us do.

rxempress - 07 Nov 2003 17:19 GMT All this name calling started because some idiot spammed the newsgroup to inform us about this great deal on a PDR on e-Bay. Why pay for something when you can get the same (if not more current) information by pulling out the wadded piece of paper jammed into the stock bottle with the cotton and the desiccant. I can't think of one pharmacist who would pay money for a PDR (unless it was from the 60s or 70s and had some really vintage drugs in it.) I think we were all ranting about the waste of band width.
Secondly... RX student. You are going to have to develop a sense of humor or you are never going to make it in the real world. You are going to receive a lot of lemons when you transcend from the university. While most of us in this newsgroup make lemonade.. unless your attitude changes you are going to find yourself waist high in a pile of rotting lemons.

Makes you wonder how some students make it past the entrance reviews. Anyway...I did keep my 1982 PDR...it was given to me as a gift by a very good friend of mine. We had went through the first 3 years of pharmacy school together, when he decided to try his luck at Osteopathic medicine. He applied and was accepted. We have kept in touch for all these years, some 28 of them now. He brought me the 1982 PDR when I graduated from pharmacy school, I returned the favor when he graduated from the School of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of Tulsa. To me, that 1982 PDR is only sentimental value, I can't think of a single time when I actually used it as a reference. Have a good weekend! C U L8R! M.L.A. Bakker - 11 Nov 2003 17:13 GMT > You obviously think a lot of the lay public. Well, come and work in pharmacy for a while, and get phonecalls like: "I got a new boyfriend, do I need a new birthcontrol pill now?" Happened to a collegue of mine...

I am an American so I feel free to comment. Americans can't even learn the metric system after years of public education. Liters of gasoline, kilograms of meat, meters, so forth are all foreign to them Some of the best selling American cars are listed by Consumer Reports as "lemons".
If you work in a pharmacy you had better tell the customer to remove the foil from the Dulcolax suppository before inserting it. People have also been known to take them orally. Some customers believe you only have to take a BC pill each time you have sex. .

Classic at the hospital I used to work was the story of the pregnant woman who was asked by the OB/Gyn who was trying to figure out how she got pregnant, if she had been using the spermicidal jelly with her diaphram. Patient responded that she had been putting it on her toast every day!!
