It is long past time for the profession of pharmacy to demand the
dignity to match its credentials!

January 21, 2008

Pharmacy, as a profession, has long been discriminated against at the healthcare lunch counter. A new organization, The Pharmacy Alliance (TPA), is being formed to end this discrimination and restore dignity to the profession.

The members of the profession of pharmacy make up an oppressed group.  Despite its extremely high standards for training and licensure, and top standing in respectability polls, pharmacy is probably the only healthcare profession whose members are actively abused. They are locked in a small prison-cell-type room for up to 14 hours a day with no break, no food, no toilet facilities, and with various segments of society (the public, government regulators, and company managers) feeling free to mistreat them. And, it is the only healthcare profession that has given away its professional services for free, or for a minuscule fee. Would any other profession of similar stature tolerate such conditions? Neither shall we!

Some people taunt pharmacists by saying, "that's why you make the big bucks." No! Our salaries do not represent hush money! They represent our worth as a group of highly trained, licensed medication experts, pursued for hiring by countless companies and organizations.  It is long past time for us to demand the dignity to match our credentials. The Pharmacy Alliance is the first organization that will work for the dignity, integrity, and self-respect of the individual pharmacy practitioner.

TPA will hold its organizational meeting at the Holiday Inn
On The Beach, San Luis Resort Galveston Complex, Galveston, Texas, US, on April 19-20, 2008.

I am not "there" now, but I have been and can only say "amen brother"

I have always wondered why "we" tolerate this.  Our so-called
professional organizations have refused to even acknowledge the horrid
working conditions that still exist.

Good luck and I hope you are successful.  I would hope other pharmacists
would also get involved.
