form Lipitor (branded statins) to generic one such as
simvastatin could be dangerous.

It is possible to have a reaction from any particular drug.  However the
biggest danger of switching from a brand name statin to simvastatin is to
the cash flow of the company making the high priced medication.  My doctor
has my lipid levels checked by lab every three months and I found no
difference in performance between brand name simvastatin and the generic
except for a large price difference.

Understand

But have been hearing a lot abt it on the radio lately
such as on this show

http://www.drkenshow.com/

Anyway... I have switched form 20mg Lipitor to 40 mg of
cheaper simvastatin

Just wondering if I should talk to my doc abt it?

Why not? When you see your doctor you can discuss it.  However the proof
will be from your blood test (lipid levels, etc.) and how you feel on the
new medication.  I notice that on the show you mention  one of the sponsors
is AstraZeneca.  This company makes Crestor (rosuvastatin).
You can't go into a Mercedes dealership and expect them to suggest that a
Honda Civic will get you where you need to go as well as a Mercedes-Benz S
class automobile!

Yes, it would be dangerous to the profits of Pfizer.  To you, no.  In fact
it might be benefical.

When I switched from Lipitor 10 mg to Simvastatin 20 mg, my cholesterol
levels went down by over 50 points.  And it was all in my LDL levels.  My
HDL levels are now HIGHERT than my LDL levels.  If I remember correctly my
HDL was in the mid 60's and LDL in the upper 40's.

And yes I've been a pharmacist for over 35 years.
