Get a sleep study done.

Sedatives will just make you feel worse if you have a sleep disorder.

Usually the first step in correcting insomnia is to practice good sleep
hygiene. Some of the major points are

1. decrease or completely eliminate stimulants (caffeine (in coffee tea
cola) some medications and chocolate. Regarding medications.. ask  your
pharmacist if any medications  you take can cause insomnia
2. Go to sleep at the same time every night.  Room should be quiet and dark.
3. Do not exercise before bedtime
4. If you do not fall asleep within 20 minutes... get out of  bed and leave
the room.  Use your  bedroom only sleeping  (and other  activities which
require a bed).  Do not read or watch TV
5. Some people have trouble sleeping if they eat prior to bedtime...  others
sleep better with a full tummy.
6. I know it sounds like an old wives' tale but  try drinking some warm milk
before bed.  It contains tryptophan.. which promotes sleep.

7. Nothing works? Then consult your doctor
