My elderly neighbor just got ChampVA insurance and has had Medicare up to
this point.
She was told by a social worker type (not employee of VA) that she did not
have to pay anything when using ChampVA to get her prescription medications.
Yesterday she got a prescription filled at her pharmacy (regular retail
pharmacy not VA) and they told her she had to pay a co-pay.???
Questions...
Should she be able to get a prescription filled and the pharmacy bills ONLY
ChampVA and the entire cost of the prescription is paid?
Or should the pharmacy FIRST bill Medicare, THEN bill ChampVA for the
remainder and then she would not have to pay anything?
Or is it the case that she needs to get her prescriptions filled at a VA
pharmacy in order to get them paid 100%?
Or is it the case that whoever told her she should not have to pay anything
is full of whooey?
(I don't know anything about this, just trying to help her out. She does not
understand any of this stuff...)

This is what I understand about ChampVA. If she sends in her
prescriptions, she pays nothing. If she gets it filled at a pharmacy,
she gets 75% off, but only after $50.00 deductible. I may be wrong, but
that is my understanding.
