The other day I went to buy some Loperamide, for diarrhoea and I
discovered  in Wilkinson's hardware shop, in there pharmacy section"
Imodium" 2mgs @£2.30 for 6 caps =38p.   I had previously brought them  @ a
local pharmacy  for £3.75 for 6 caps = 0.62p each!  .But Wilkinson's own
brand under the name of "Wilko" cost only 0.87p for 6 caps = 14p each .. How
do you explain the huge difference in cost for what is the same  dosage
loperamide 2mgs.The same applies to all manner of pharmacy found in the
supermarkets i.e.. selling paracetamol for a fraction of the cost of branded
goods done up in there fancy packets and expensive advertising.Come on you
pharmacist explain that.?..cas

Advertiseement costs, development costs, brand recognition. Quality control.
Also, would you pay for an unknown generic the same price you would cough up
for an internationally known brand of a product?   Why does a mercedez cost
more than a ford?  Both have an engine, 4 wheels, seats, etc.

HaHaHa lol.

Although on some drugs it makes less difference than others, all medications
are not the same. Just ask your pharmacist/chemist.  Do they ever have a
patient controlled on a brand name medication who then goes on a generic and
suddenly the medication doesn't work as well.  Almost every pharmacist can
tell you stories of this happening to patients.    Most high end brands,
have better quality control.  have tablets that have more consistent
liberation, and absorption characteristics.  They use well proven excipients
and disintegration formulae.  Try taking a brand name tetracycline capsule
and a generic not made by a brand company.  Take the capsules and see how
they dissolve in solutions of different pH's.   You will probably find a
difference.  My father-in-law loved his fords and would not trade them in
for a mercedez.  So again its peronal choice.
