How would you prescribe an experimental drug, like platensimycin? Like
if you would have a patient w/ VISA and the only antibiotic that's
been proven effective is platensimycin, how would you prescribe it?
Just write out a standard Rx and give it to the hospital pharmacist
and hope all goes well w/ the manufatcuer? Thanks!!!!

If drugs are experimental, and not approved by the FDA for any purpose as of
yet, the only way to prescribe the drug is if you are part of a research
study, utilizing this drug in a research protocol.  There may be some
unusual circumstances where a drug may be available on a compassionate plea
basis from the drug company.  On a compassionate plea basis, for some drugs
the Pharmacy, or in some cases, the Physician must complete forms and maybe
even register the patient in a program to obtain the medication.
