Hello,

I am a computer programmer with a MS in Computer Science and 8+ years of
experience. With the recent trend in computer jobs being sent overseas
to China and India, and myself being unemployed since being laid off
from Lucent Tech., I am looking at a possible career change.

I have had an interest in the Pharmacy industry for several years now
and was wondering about what my best strategy would be for getting into
that. I would like to continue to tap into my computer background if
possible, and not necessarily become a Pharmacist (being unemployed I am
extremely low on funds and time for getting started).

I was thinking about first becoming a Pharmacy Tech. And then once I am
stable and have some experience branch into something else. It seems
that IT is growing with the Pharmacy industry, but it is not clear
where. Any suggestions?

Hello,
Just to let you know, pharm. tech. is a good start in the pharmacy
field. I am currently heading there myself. I would recommend going this
direction. Good luck.

I don't know about the other chains, but Walgreens has their own software
development team.  I know that some pharm techs have been taught enough
about programming to be part of it.  Since you already have that, I would
look into getting the pharmacy experience, then move into the technology
part.
