The tablet doesn't attach to anything. The active ingredient, which
dissolves and then absorbs into the blood stream, has a chemical
which has the affinity and steriospecificity to attach to the protein
(receptor), where it's pharmacological effects are to be initiated.
Sometimes the actual clinical effect is a post receptor effect. The side
effects usually are a result of the medication, attaching to other
like receptors which may not be the targets of the drug, but may not be
easily differentiated.
