Hello:
Is cellulose the typical "inert" ingredient in
many pharmacuitical prescription and non-prescr. items ?
Such as, e.g., Fosamax, Tylenol, Vit. C tablets, etc.
Thanks,
B.

Cellulose, in one form or another, is a common 'excipent' used in various
pharmaceutical dosage forms ranging from tablets and capsules, to liquids,
eye drops, etc.
Its purpose is to provide bulk, consistency, or sticktoitiveness [sic]. For
example, consider a tablet in which the active ingredient(s) total 5
milligrams in weight. A typical tablet might weigh 200 - 300 mg or more.
The inert ingredients are what makes the tablet possible--the actives are
just along for the ride.
Do you have a problem with cellulose?
