We have a PT who suffers from severe muscle spasms in the neck and back.
His Doc prescribed carisoprodol which he discontinued because of
palpitations and other side effects. The same Dr then put him on a
cyclobenzaprine/diphenhydramine combo which gave him no relief. About a
week ago, he was Rx'd Valium, and got relief but hated the side effects.
Also, his Dr informed him that he's now on a medication that he may have
to be "weaned from". He was in today and asked if I could offer any
suggestions or alternative treatment that didn't involve an addictive
drug. He has stopped taking the Valium because he's terrified of addiction.
I suggested he might give the local chiropractor a try, but he'd already
been down that road. At this point I mentioned biofeedback, and that he
might do some research into this form of treatment. He would need to
travel a pretty long distance as there are no treatment centers in this
area. Has anybody had patients who have benefited from biofeedback
sessions? I know very little about it and don't wish to send him down a
primrose path.

I suppose you have already explored it, but has the pt thought about
what is causing the spasms, and alleviating that?
