As I am sick of BZDs, I am trying barbiturates now for my axnity. I
was reading in the leaflet that accompanies the meds that the median
dose for "sedative purposes" and axnity is 30 mg to 120 mg in divided
doses. Well, what does this mean? 40 mg t.i.d.? or 120 mg t.i.d.,
if necessary?
In other words, if I want to take a useful dose of Luminal
(phenobarbital) for my axnity, what would that be? 100 mg p.r.n.? 50
mg p.r.n.? What?? Also, as I doubt my pharmacy carries brand
Luminal, are the phenobarbital tablets scored (friable) so I may break
them in half and take 50 mg instead of being "forced" to take the
whole 100 mg? I am highly conservative about my axnity, you see.
Finally, is it true you aren't supposed to ingest more than 800 mg/day
of phenobarbital before the blood level becomes toxic, or is the total
daily dose more or less than that? I sure don't want to do a Karen
Anne thingy because of my axnity.
Well, thanks for your help. Oh - I want ANSWERS, not WARNINGS about
the potential perils of barbs - if you are going to flap your jaws
about the dangers of phenobarb to treat axnity, then shut your horny
whore holes. Thanks in advance.
Love you all,
Lithobid Lady

Heres an answer: Don't take barbiturates for anxiety, if you can find a
doctor who will prescribe them, he should be disbarred.

Dear Lady, I'm an old dog that saw "Luminal" used for anxiety and I know the
usual dose used on the firing line 30 years ago
was 1/2gr tid. However, try Potassium Bromide it works and in the short and
long run has less toxic effects on the body..
