Hi, My doc dx'd me with c. dificille. She prescribed flagyl, which I
understand is standard. She also pulled out a bunch of samples of
Nexium and gave them to me. I've got a Mosby's guide and although I
don't completely understand the wording, it seems that it's not a good
combo... kind of counterproductive. I know the deal about asking your
doctor but she is rather blase and I've been on these boards with med
problems for years. Any thoughts? Please? I'm taking the Flagyl. I can
deal with heartburn but not the bad bugs. Thank you much.

One is treated for C. Difficile Toxin,  and not colonization with C.
Difficile if not positive for the toxin. The toxin causes pseudomembranous
colitis, and at times can be a very virulent toxin, causing very severe
illness.  If treated early and successfully complete recovery is possible.
However, if you feel your symptoms are getting worse, get medical attention
immediately.  Usually C.Diff. occurs after overgrowth from inpatient
colonization and taking other antibiotics which allow the growth of C.Diff.
Good Luck.   This is not an infection to be treated with a blase attitude.

Well yeah, the blase attitude angered me when and if the diahhrea gets
worse I'll go to the emergency room pronto. It did occur after another
doc put me on a long course of antibiotics. Is Nexium use safe with a
mild-moderate C. Diff (I don't know if the toxins are present... yet)
or should it be avoided? I read that a few studies in Canada showed
some correlation between proton pump inhibitors and C. Diff infections.
