Well Bob, I am just the opposite.
I started with a chain, and after a few years went to a hospital. I'm
happier. They both have good and bad points. Money? I suppose a person
could earn 10-20% more in retail, but you work correspondingly harder.
And frankly, if you can't pay the bills on a hospital pharmacist's
salary, your spending is out of whack.
Since I was over 40 when I first got my license, I don't expect to make
a giant nest egg before I retire, so I'd rather work where I can take a
break, and get a vacation without calling in favors. I once heard an
insinuation by a retail pharmacist that hospital pharmacists are lazy,
but that's nonsense. I suppose the pharmacist I know who works full
time with me AND full time in retail could say the same thing about all
of us. I suppose the pharmacist who made the local news who worked at
the county hospital and made 1/4 million (lots of OT) could also say the
same thing. I say, knock yourself out kid, if that's what you want to
do.

===================
Not a problem everyone has his or her own preferences...Honestly
I always thought I was more of a Businessman then as a Pharmacist..
sorry but I just liked running a business much more then dealing with
"pills" ...loved the customers however....
Never heard anyone in all my years refer to Hospital Pharmacists as
being Lazy however...that comment surprised me... on the lots of
overtime...yea I knew a Pharmacist like that... had 3 children in
college at the same time, then all in Med School the same time...
guy is now about 55 just about shot...(and basically broke.) BUT his 3
children are doing just fine... LOL
Enjoy
Bob.
