Hello everyone...

I'd like to know from the pharmacists that frequent this board...
Is it possible to ask a pharmacy to order a particular manufacturer for
my medication?

In other words, I usually get the generic of a particular medication.
Now, the pharmacy switched to a different manufacturer of this
medication. I was wondering if the pharmacy will order the old
manufacturer for me. Yes, no?

The reason is, this new generic upsets my stomach something terrible,
and for a cancer patient, that's not good! Actually, it's not good for
anyone! The old generic never did. And yes, i have used both before,
that's how I know.

Thanks!

I will throw my hat into the ring of agreeing with that statement,
I have to take hydrocodone about 15 tablets per month for
spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease.  The mallencromptk(sp?)
does very little, however the Watson generic brand works
wonders, in fact, when I take the Watson generics, I can usually
make due with cutting the tablet in half and taking a half instead of
one whole one.  With the Mall.... brand, it hardly works at all.

I have told my pharmacist this and he now only stocks the Watson
brand.  Apparently hydrocodone is one of the top 20 prescribed
drugs these days because he says he has had many clients say the
same things about the watsons, I had no idea that so many people
took hydrocodone, I thought it was only something that they gave
you at the dentist office or in cough syrup!

Yes... okay.. since we're talking about it... the medication I am
talking about is OxyContin.
My stomach HATES the ENDO brand, but it likes the IVAX brand. Is there
any chance a pharmacist can do it?

That would depend on the pharmacy/pharmacist.  In chains, most of the
purchasing decisions are made above the store level, and are based mainly on
cost.  We can order a specific brand from our wholesaler, get charged more
than our warehouse brand, have multiple brands on the shelf, forget which
patient wants which brand, get confused, piss people off, get frustrated.
Most of the pharmacists in my area will not stock a specific brand for a
patient.  You would probably have better luck with an independent pharmacy.
Just keep in mind that there is no rule that they have to and you will get a
better response by asking nicely. (It's sad I have to add that, but I've
dealt with too many people this week who think that bullying is a way to get
good customer service.)

Very True.... BUT as someone else stated you end up with multiply
Generic brands of the same drug on the shelf which normally is not a
problem IF only 1 or 2 Individuals want a specific Manufacturers
product. ..

BUT

The major reason I WILL NOT stock specific manufacturers is simple...

IF the patient IS NOT A CASH CUSTOMER... I normally will loose money
or at best cover my costs...  A Cash customer on the other hand is
charged my true costs plus a normal markup...

Insurance Companies set the maximum they will pay for any multisource
product .  and the Pharmacies all scramble to find "deals" on buying
these multisource products at or less then the maximum Insurance
Companies pay...

From my experience 90 percent of the Pharmacists behind the counter of
chain stores (and I was a chain store manager for 30 years) have
absolutely no clue  on what they actually paid for a drug and how much
they are selling it to an insurance company for...  moswt assume that
actually make money filling every Rx...  LOL  I wish !
