Filing hard copies

Someone told me one of the big chains is starting to scan their hard
copies, and will no longer bother to put them in order, but just bundle
them up day by day.

Why didn't I think of that?

I hear they also intend to have the RPh compare what the entry person
types into the computer against the scan of the hard copy, before
counting the pills.  Seems like a good idea:  You could clean up the
errors before printing and labeling.

I thought that sequenced filing of hard copies was required by law in most
states, and that the hard paper copies had to be readily retrievable.

Didn't CVS et al start scanning rxs years ago?

I believe the separation of controls from non-controls is required in some
states, but how you organize them is up to you.

As an employee of a pharmacy that scans their hard copies, I'll share how we
do it around here (other area's might be different).  CIIs and CIII-Vs are
filed separately in numerical order (prescription number).  Non-Cs are
bundled by the 100s, but not in order.  They are still retrievable.  If I
need to pull Rx 1234, I just have to find it in the pack of 1200-1299.  I
asked the auditor from an insurance company, and at the time, they had no
policy to accept reprints of the scanned Rxs as hard copies.  We will still
probably save time vs. putting everything in order.

I have NOT put the Rx's in order  in over 15-20 years now... Just a
complete waste of time...

Never took more then a minute to find The hard copy I was looking for
within a Bundle of 100    Number xxxx56 is usually between xxxx45 and
xxxx65
