acetylsalicylic acid (BAyer Aspirin, Ecotrin) smells like diacetylmorphine (H)?

I've been wondering this for a while now. Anyone ever take a whiff of
Bayer's Aspirin (in the bottle)? Does it not smell like heroin? It does to
me.

It's also interesting how German chemist Felix Hoffmann first synthesized
Aspirin, noting that by adding an acetyl group to the salicylic acid (willow
bark extract) helped it cross the BBB faster, or so I've heard.

How would I know what Heroin smells like? Geee...I have no idea.

I also have no idea what heroin smells like.  I do know that when aspirin
hydrolyzes, acetic acid (vinegar) is cleaved off of the molecule.  Perhaps
your heroin (diacetylmorphine) is undergoing hydrolysis also.

Prior to tamper evident/resistant packaging, used to love lifting the cap
off of store-brand aspirin and taking a whiff, then doing the same with
Bayer (no odor).  If you were lucky, you would come across a bottle of
store-brand loaded with needle-like crystals of salicylic acid.

Yeah---that's right. I forgot all about that acetic acid reaction. Makes
sense now. Thanx a bunch!
So you used to open the store bottles of Bayer just to sniff 'em? Man, if
you did heroin you'd know what I'm talkin' about. AFA "MY heroin"? Well, I
dabbled around several years ago with it, but I've been off it since 2000, &
don't plan on returning. It was only every once in a while, but the g/f I
had at the time was hooked, so I did do it more often then. That sh.t'll eat
your soul, like (especially) cocaine, if you're not careful. I do not
condone it one bit, but I do think that doctors (esp. Western docs) should
not be so paranoid about making addicts out of their patients and use some
real Rx pain meds (specifically opiates/semi-synth. opiates), and the DEA
should esp. f'k off & leave the docs alone, but monitor them still, but not
put them under such pressure (i.e.. losing their license). I understand
there are some f'k up docs out there that are specifically pill dispensers,
and this IS a problem, of course, but the healthcare industry needs to take
a serious look at treating the patients with whatever they want
(specifically opiates), and not have to worry about the DEA/big brother
watching them. Pain management needs serious overhaul, IMO. Don't get me
wrong, opiates can & will cause more harm to the patient than the patient
intended, but I just think opiates need to be less criminalized and leave
that up to the patient. If they want to f'k up their lives, fine. At least
they'll be in less pain. It's like steroids & sports. F"K steroid testing in
sports. My God, again, if the person wants to f'k up their bodies, fine. Let
'em learn. We could have the entire MLB Association filled with Mr.
Universes or Governators, hitting 4 or 5 grand slams per game. That'd be
more fun than the way baseball is now---it's like watching paint dry!!!!!!!!
Seriously, though, I believe opiates/strong pain relievers should be
monitored in the doc's office & practice, but the opiates need less
demonization, IMO.
Now, don't even get me started on medical marijuana, much less legalization.

If you're doing tar, you're smelling all the excess acetic acid or
remaining acetic anhydride (of which there is probably none if it ever
touched water).

Aspirin has a slight acetate smell, but not like tar. White heroin
should smell nothing like aspirin, as it has been cleaned up and today,
depending on where you live is usually fentanyl or alpha methyl
fentanyl.

Yeah, it was tar. Thanx.

Makes sense. White H + Fent.? Really. Interesting. The first time I did
(insuff.) H, it was white. Saw all kinds of geometric patterns as I lay in
the poopy fields of my mind. *drool*

Lol---

Oh my goodness...not the poopy fields. I guess that was the ol' proverbial
Freudian slip...just got back from walkin' the Weimeraner.

My favourite typo of all times was "Freudian slit..."

(You know, when you confuse one word with amother...)

AKA "the ghost dog".... Cool!!

You're lucky to own one, it's sort of the dog equivalent of a Ferrari......
man they can run and run & run!

I used to play with my neighbours Weimaraner, it could outrun us even when
we went riding our bikes. My neighbour used to train it by letting it run
next to his car sometimes! :)

I like this analogy. Very good, but I don't own him. He's my friend's dog.
I'm just watching him (again).

Yeah, I keep hearing a lot of people tell me about how they've owned one
and/or have had experiences of them running all the time & are very hyper,
etc., but Blue (appropriately named due to the fact that he's a blue coat
Weim.) CAN be very hyper and CAN run (& does), but he's really not like that
all the time, like a lot of Weim. owners have expressed to me.
