I called Merck with this question and they said "they have no
information" on it. The question is this:
I MUST take a muscle relaxant before getting up in the morning or my
back goes into spasms (back injury). Of course the instructions for
Fosamax state I have to take it before taking other meds and I must not
lie down for 30 minutes.
I asked them if I took the muscle relaxant (Flexeril), waited two hours
before getting up and then took the Fosamax would that be OK. They had
no idea. Neither does my doctor.
I find it hard to believe that nobody else out there has some med that
they have to take before they can get out of bed.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?

Hello,
I don't take this medication and I am not a doctor. I can only tell you
what I would do if I were in your situation. I would try the experiment
for at least one morning to see if it works for you. Every person is
different and it's possible the experiment might work. I doubt if the drug
was tested (during the trials) for hundreds of different times to take the
drug which is the reason that you are probably having a difficult time
finding an answer to your question. If you don't want to try the
experiment, that is up to you.

Hi,
In the UK there is a formulation of Fosamax that is a 70mg once-weekly dose.
The same restrictions apply with respect to not being horizontal after
taking it, taking before other meds, etc. However, you'd only have your
problem one day a week instead of seven.

I've taken Fosamax for 4+ years. I take inbuprophen every AM approx. 2 hrs
before I get out of bed. I take Fosamax 70mg once a week when I get up. I've
never had any problems. spam2death

There is a new once a month oral drug out now
maybe a good choice for you
ask you md
Today the FDA approved a once-a-month version of the osteoporosis drug
Boniva. The approval makes the drug the first once-a-month medicine designed
to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis or any other chronic disease.
