The rash that won't die

After 35 years of a rash-free life, I have developed a spotty, itchy
rash in the past few months.  Steroid creams prescribed by my
dermatologist clear up the rash within days, but then the rash
eventually begins to reappear after about 7-10 days of NOT using the
cream.

The locations of the rash:
- buttocks
- hips
- lower back (along underwear line)

The rash is mildly itchy, but after scratching it I notice small bumps
which look like flea bites.

Now the part that concerns me:  The location of the rash coincides with
"pressure points" where I sit 8 hours a day.  I'm a computer
programmer, and have been for the past 12 years.  Is it possible that
my skin has finally "broken down" over the years and is now subject to
rash permanently?  This really worries me, as this is my job and I have
to sit.  I get up often during the day and walk around.

Thanks for any help...

Do you know the name for your condition?
Is it Tinea Versicolor?

Not sure.  I've had 2 appts with my derm and he hasn't made an official
diagnosis --- he only prescribed the steroid cream.  I'll do some
research on Tinea Versicolor to see if the symptoms sound familiar....

He inspected me for lice and there was nothing.  Would he have been
able to spot mites, or are they almost impossible to see?

Would the steroid cream keep them under control but not kill them?

Hello,
I am not a doctor. I developed the same sort of rash several years ago. I
noticed that the rash was very bad at the pressure points that you
mentioned. It turned out that I had developed an allergic reaction to the
phosphates and enzymes in Tide detergent. After the rash cleared up as a
result of a cream prescribed by my doctor, I stopped using Tide. I now use
only Woolite detergent to wash my clothes. I no longer use any bleach
since I may have also developed an allergic reaction to bleach. I advise
you to wash all of your clothing in Woolite or any liquid detergent that
does not contain phosphates, dyes, or enzymes. In addition--don't use
bleach. You should run your clothing thru the rinse cycly two times for
the next couple of weeks.
