Hmm...well, of those 3, I would say "restroil"...
since it doesn't exist! If you mean Restoril,
all 3 are relatively equal in regards to dependency...
Halcion has been associated with higher than normal
problems with liver failure...
Best bet is leave them all alone, and find the cause
of lack of sleep.

Not sure if you're seeking info. strictly from pharmacists here. I'm just
an "end user," but I've been using lorazepam (Ativan) for 15 years. I've
experienced no side effects, aside from a good night's sleep.

Well, Ambien would probably be the best as it has a very short half life
and Halcion
has had problems associated with it (memory loss, I think). Restoril
has too long a half
life.
However, no sleeping pill will solve your sleeping problem. They are
useful for infequent
problems (such as jet lag), short term help with major problems in one's
life (like a spouse
dying), but if used for over a week or so, you're only going to get the
placebo effect and if
used for much longer, you'll have a withdrawl reaction most likely. If
you were to raise
the dose, it would be even worse.
Sonata is simlar to Ambien.
I'd only use if your doctor tells you you should and I'd make sure not
to use it more than
a week, two weeks at most. The reason is that the body will become used
to it, you'll become
tolerant to it and it will either no longer be effective without raising
the dosage, which will
just make things worse, and coming off of it will just be harder. If
used for a long time (more than
a couple weeks) and/or at a high dosage, when you come off of it, you
risk a seizure problem if you
don't decrease the dosage slowly. Make sure you don't self medictate
with it and make sure you don't
mix it with alcohol.
