My doc persribed me Ultram, it seems to have
no effect at all, Asprin works better?  Is Ultram
really a pain pill?

it is an analgesic.

halo...what the hell are you talking about.  Right out of a medical
dictionary, an analgesic is "a medicine used to relieve pain".  Does that
not make it a pain pill.  I agree with Tom - Ultram is useless.  It is
supposed to "increase the availability of serotonin and norepinephrine in
certain brain centers, and also works at opioid centers, thereby relieving
pain".  DUH!!...Pete

Yep, Ultram is right up there with tylenol and aspirin as
far as pain killing ability, I tried to return it to the pharmacy
but they won't take it back.  What a scam, I guess I'll
stick to poison/hydrocodone - err, APAP/hydrocodone.

It helps with pain but it isn't heroin. Perhaps, Mr. Malcolm, you
just need to see your local street drug dealer instead since you
appear to be looking for a high rather than help with real pain.

Too bad your doctor cannot give you something for the whining
problem.

I said it was a pain pill, but I used the word analgesic and not 'pain' per
the industry standard.

I've found it to be useful and therapeutic for my headaches.  I don't have
any bodily pain,
so I can't say anything positive about it there.   Its a mind-over-matter
drug and I've read tons of posts
saying that its useless.   Other people with Fibro and headaches/depression
do say positive things
about.   Other people say it works as an antidepressant PRN.

The thing is that it takes about 3 hours to start working, so its not like
oxycontin or morphine which act quickly.  Then, depending on your
metabolism, it works for 3-5 hours.

Definitely not a scam.   It does work as advertised in *some* patients.

As I understand it, Ultram is supposed have some of the qualities of opiates
or barbiturate analgesics (e.g., Vicodin, Fiorinal) but be much less (not?)
addictive. I didn't work for me.

It's like Buspar (anxiolytic):  they apparently can prove that it works in
enough patients to get it approved, but apparently still a minority. Also
not addictive like, say, Xanax. Buspar didn't work for me.

ps I am not a pharmacist.
