Anyone have any experience where generic loratadine was not as
effective / wore off earlier than brand claritin?  Or any other side
effects of taking the store generics?

I know some other generic drugs do this due to the inactive
ingredients.

I usually use the 24 hour (non-reditab) "Original prescription strengh"
version.  I'd rather not continue paying triple for brand-name
Claritin, but wanted to hear from the group before I switched to a
generic.  I would be buying in-store at CVS or Walgreens (in the USA).

I buy generic Claratin, loratadine, from Dollar General.  It cost $2.50 for
ten tablets.  They are strip packaged and they are made in Canada. They seem
to work just fine and twenty-five cents a tablet is pretty inexpensive.

When my small town used to be much smaller - we called the Dollar General -
Dillards and the Family Dollar - Foleys.
Made us feel like big city big shots.

Oh and the generic has done just fine around here.

Our QFC store can order the 500 count bottle of loratadine 10mg for about
$25 from Cardinal...  We can get a bottle from Peyton of 100ct for about
$13.00.  This would be the cost to the customer not our cost to purchase.

Who told you take one....????

To be truthful if Home Depot ...of Lowes had Loratadine on the shelf I
(as a Pharmacist) still would not have a  problem buying it...

Just my opinion...

To the original poster...

It is technically the same thing.  If you specifically have a reaction to
some of the inert fillers/binders then you shouldn't take the generic.  This
is very rare though and most of the paranoia about generics have been
started by the drug companies and old people.  I have found that old people
are the most suspicious about generics, followed closely by ignorant people
and then stupid people.

I find it most funny though when  a patient comes in and insists on a name
brand citing all types of reasons why they can't take generics and then when
they find out there copay is about 4 times as much as the generic they all
of  a sudden want the generic.  It creates more work for us to back it out,
recount, reprocess etc.

I find the same here in the UK. :)

Good to see that people are the same the world over. If it won't cost them a
penny, they will have the "best" brand. If they have to dip into their
pocket they'll have the cheapest generic available..

Wouldn't everybody drive only cars like BMW's or Mercedes Benz if it didn't
cost them a penny more than a Chevy or Honda Civic? If a Rolex and a Timex
were the same price?  In my experience some people who buy everything else
generic and, who "like" control substances more than the government says
they should,  will also pay a lot extra to get the brand name instead of a
generic.
