Try to make this short an sweet. I checked into a detox facility to get
off of 6 klonpin per day. Doctor decides he can do it in 5 days. I said
from what I have read that is not doable. He said, in broken English of
course that is long enough. After my final dose I felt OK> Two days
later I was coming out of my skin. I checked into this place because of
15 years of being on Klonopin for a panick disorder and the genius
wanted to be in the Guiness book for speed tapering.
I went to the nurses station to tell them I was going to seize because
I was seeing white lights and I was in hell. My skin was crawling and I
felt like I was in a pool and could not get to the top of the water to
get a breath. I don't want this to sound like I am boasting for really
messing up a psych patient but two days before I was in danger of being
hurt. In the cafeteria guy halls off an punches me in the blackening
it. I ended up sitting on his chest and putting his nose on the side of
his face and severly breaking his jaw. They Baker Acted handcuffed and
all under a bright light for 24 hours. Think about the anxiety at that
point not being able to move.
Back, to the feeling of the seizure. Before I could get the words out
fully I am on the floor after I am told I peed on myself and was
bouncing on back bone on the floor at the nurses station.
I was so embarrassed. The doc forgot to see me all of the next day and
I felt another one coming on. My wife got me out of there AMA and I
will never ever go back to a facility for detox from Benzos. They do
not understand the time factor involved. I was literally shaking so bad
at night I would lay there and my head would be banging against the
pillow.
I am debating a law suit regarding the Seizure as that could have been
it for me.
I hope you people will think of me before you put your life in the
hands of these greedy people trying to detox you in record time.
God Bless you all for listening.

I'm sorry you had to go through that. At the present time I depend on
lower doses of benzos than you mentioned to deal with lifelong, chronic
anxiety. I detest with all my heart the whole rotten tribe of everyday
moralists and indifferent doctors who think everything should be done
stoically and/or with suffering.
If this was the way your doctor thought, good riddance. Look around for
a kind one and try the withdrawal again. More likely he was just
ignorant. That means there's every liklihood you could find a sensible
one who would give you a decent time to withdraw.
I hope your economic situation permits this.
Cordially,
Leonard

The standard "Hazeldon Protocol" for detoxing
from benzos and from some other drugs, consists
of at least 30 days clonidine and phenobarbital
gradually tapering down. The actual detox could
take 90+ days physically with much longer
psychologically. Anyone that would taper down
as opposed to stopping the benzo immediately and
putting you on a barbiturate is not following standard
detox protocal. This guy was obviously not an
addictionologist, look for one, they are out there.
Good luck and hope you find what you need, benzo
withdrawl is horrible, I have been there myself as a
teenager and later worked in an inpatient substance
abuse facility as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor.
Nicotine and benzos can be the hardest to get off of,
even harder than herion according to some former
herion users I know who have successfully achieved
long term recovery.
