The enteric coating is supposed to make the tablet easier on the stomach.
It may delay the dissolution of the tablet somewhat but is not generally
considered as a "slow release"

Primary reason is to allow the tablet to exit the stomach BEFORE it
dissolves...thus not upsetting the stomach...  Of course it does
dissolve in the intestines..but that is another matter ..

IT is not a sustained release nor is it a slow release... dosage form.

Except for drugs like like Depakote, which is marketed in confusing
"delayed release" AND "extended release" forms, one of which is actually
an enteric coated, unless I'm wrong. Still, the pink ones smell nice.
