Does anyone know if there could be any systemic effects from a topical
solution (mostly consisting of isopropyl alcohol) applied to the scalp
every day?

The product in question is a hairloss formula called Eucapil from
menspharma.com that consists of 2% Fluridil and 98% Isopropyl Alcohol.

The manufacturer claims there is no risk... but I am worried of
possible systemic absorption and subsequent conversion to acetone in
the body.

Any ideas?

Avoid the product...at 98 percent isopropyl alcohol, the risk
of self-injury is substantially greater than any perceived
benefit in regards to reduced hair loss!  Besides, any "hair
gained" could go up in flames...QUICKLY!  Not to mention the
irritation...OUCH!  No thanks!

Thanks for all the replies.

The substance Fluridil actually has some solid science behind it
(double blind placebo controlled study in a reputable journal) but I
dont think using isopropyl alcohol as a vehicle is smart...

It seems like proplyene glycol or something similar would have been
much better.

If this was a legitimate medication then it would be FDA approved and you
would have your answer in the form of a patient package insert.   If it
works for you then great.

If this was such a great thing I would think some major company would snatch
it up and sell it.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you.

Curios thing as to why this website is registered in Scotland and
Czechoslovakia.  The US has much stricter standards for this type of thing.

If alcohol grew hair, there would be many people with fur-lined stomachs.
