I recently received treatment ( cleaning of wounds, tetanus shot,
antbiotic shot in hip ) for a dog bite to one of my hand . The
emergency clinic physician gave then gave me a prescription for
Ceftin 500 mg BID for 10 days . A subsequnt visit to an orthopaedist
specializing in hands told me that Augmentin should be the medication
of choice and and gave me a prescription for 875 mg BIB for 7 days ?
Who is correct ? ie do I really need to switch medications ?

Well, FWIW, I have been informed on multiple occasions that the "gold
standard" for humans with bite wounds from dogs is Augmentin
(amoxicillin/clavulanic acid).

according to a review article in the New England Journal of Medicine,
Augmentin is the drug of choice.

I taught my intern a lesson today. When a postman comes in and says he has
a workman's comp claim you can pull out the augmentin bottle before you look
