I've been prescribed mirtazapine for depression, and it's working very
well, except that is gives me a very dry mouth while I sleep.
This really worries me, as lack of saliva can cause tooth decay to
rocket - and problems with my teeth are one of the things that
exacerbate my depression and OCD the most. So it's either stay on the
meds and feel awful if my teeth start decaying even more, or come off
the meds and feeling awful anyway - a terrible dilemma.
I brush with fluoride gel every night, but I've been told this may not
be enough to counteract the effects of lack of saliva for several
hours while asleep.
What I'd like to ask here is: how viable is it to combine the
mirtazapine with a drug that promotes saliva flow? I'm thinking here
that a med to take away the side-effects of another med doesn't sound
a good idea, but has anyone here had any experience of this?
I've read that saliva-promoting drugs have side-effects of their own -
I wonder if these are worth risking?
I'd be very interested to read any comments about this.

you may wish to drink more fluids, and too perhaps take a low dose
sialagogue, ie; pilocarpine, of course only if prescribed by an appropriate
doc.
