Is it common for users of Duragesic to not get a full 72 hour therapeutic benefit? Prescription information is to apply a patch every 72 hours. I find that after 48 hours, the medication has lost its effectiveness. When you weigh the constipation vs the chronic pain, most go with the constipation. She said codeine is the worst. But as you know, some cause -=more effect=- on GI motility than others. That was my question. I was wondering if route of admin (e.g. oral, dermal, injection routes) changes constipation effect. (And how Duragesic rates on the continuum.) Emma We had a patient that also claimed the patch worked 48 hours. We called the manufacturer and they said there are reported cases of this occurring. Dr wrote rx for apply patch every 48 hours. On the chronic pain newsgroup, there are several people who don't get 72 hrs of relief.
