Paxil withdrawal questions

Hello!  Six months ago, I came down from 50 to 40 mg, and then a bit over a
month ago from 40 to 30 mg of Paxil.  After coming down to 30 mg I have
experienced a lot of anxiety, edginess and general upset.  It was very bad
about a week after coming down and then it eased a lot.  I thought this was
just a withdrawal effect.  Yet then it - the anxiety, edginess and upset -
started again after three and a half weeks and has contined since.  I wonder
if this could be a sign that I simply need to be on 40 mg of Paxil?  Or
could it be a new wave of the withdrawal?  Thank you so much.  Take good
care, Jean

the therapeutic dose of Paxil is 20mgs. 40mgs is still quite a bit. I think
you need to consider a sedative while you are coming down off Paxil. Perhaps
Benadryl which will sedate you and ease some of edginess. Good luck. Also
try www.quitpaxil.info It's a good site for info on quitting Paxil.

I love life...Yeah, I'm sad, but at the same time, I'm really happy that
something could make me feel that sad. It's like...It makes me feel alive,
you know. It makes me feel human. The only way I could feel this sad now is
if I felt something really good before. So I have to take the bad with the
good. So I guess what I'm feeling is like a beautiful sadness.

Welcome
This site is absolutely independent. It has no ties to any commercial or
non commercial entity whatsoever.

Welcome to the home for all those that have gone or are going through Paxil
/ Seroxat / Apo - paroxetine/ Apotex/ Pexeva withdrawal.

Although programs like the BBC's Panorama and recent scientific publications
lend credence to the problems that a percentage of Paxil (and other SSRI,
including Prozac) users are facing when decreasing or stopping the drug, the
medical community at large is still ill informed when it comes to the
process as a whole.

Any I have spoken to about it, seem quite aware.  I haven't spoken to "at
large", as you evidently have, but it is apparently common knowledge to any
I have spoken to.

SSRIs have never reallly been known to something that
caused a physical dependency like that of an opiate, a
bartiturate, benzodiazapine, etc.  However there are lots
of folks that would tell you that cocaine does not cause any
physical addiction either, so there is certainly a pyschological
withdrawl effect.

I would come down on the side of .... If you have the symptoms,
take the medicine.  Paxil and other similar meds, while they tend
to have a few side effects, really are not known to have any
damage to the human organ systems.  My brother is a pretty
good psychiatrist..... if there is such a thing, and he thinks that
they should sell SSRIs over the counter!   But what does he
know, he is also an LCSW and does a lot of therapy without
overmedicating everyone that walks through the door, so most
of my family is not sure if he has really latched onto the "REAL"
concept of psychiatry.

In any case... good drug, if you can deal with the sexual side
effects, what the heck stay on it.   If the side effects are too much
there are other SSRIs out there that have less side effect.

Hope things work out for you.
