My doctor prescrbed this Aldara cream to get rid of my wart which is on my
finger - the cost is $200 so I'm wondering how good is this stuff and is it
worth it...... also it seems to be used for genital warts not finger warts
so is this the right stuff anyway?

Have you tried the OTC salicylic acid wart removers? Even duct tape has
been used with some success.

If it was me, the growth was just a common wart, and I was paying out of
pocket, I would hold off on the Aldara until all other reasonable options
had failed.

Genital and perianal warts are the only FDA approved uses. Some off-label
uses for Aldara include common warts as well as basal-cell carcinomas.
Doctors can use their professional judgment to prescribe medications for
off-label use. Just because it is not approved for use in a particular
circumstance does not mean it will not work, but may simply be a case of
the manufacturer not wanting to spend the $ to get a particular use
approved by the FDA, especially if they can get their sales reps to
encourage doctors to use a drug for off-label uses without having to go
through the hassles of clinical trials and the approval process.
