Have you tried the OTC salicylic acid wart removers? Even duct tape has
been used with some success.
If it was me, the growth was just a common wart, and I was paying out of
pocket, I would hold off on the Aldara until all other reasonable options
had failed.
Genital and perianal warts are the only FDA approved uses. Some off-label
uses for Aldara include common warts as well as basal-cell carcinomas.
Doctors can use their professional judgment to prescribe medications for
off-label use. Just because it is not approved for use in a particular
circumstance does not mean it will not work, but may simply be a case of
the manufacturer not wanting to spend the $ to get a particular use
approved by the FDA, especially if they can get their sales reps to
encourage doctors to use a drug for off-label uses without having to go
through the hassles of clinical trials and the approval process.
