ABSTRACT:
Appetite suppressants may be one strategy in the fight against
obesity.
This study evaluated whether Korean pine nut free fatty acids (FFA)
and triglycerides (TG) work as an appetite suppressant.
Korean pine nut FFA were evaluated in STC-1 cell culture for their
ability to increase cholecystokinin (CCK-8) secretion vs. several
other dietary fatty acids from Italian stone pine nut fatty acids,
oleic acid, linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, and capric acid used
as a control.
At 50 uM concentration, Korean pine nut FFA produced the greatest
amount of CCK-8 release (493 pg/ml) relative to the other fatty acids
and control (46pg/ml).
A randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind cross-over trial
including 18 overweight post-menopausal women was performed.
Subjects received capsules with 3 g Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis) nut
FFA, 3 g pine nut TG or 3 g placebo (olive oil) in combination with a
light breakfast.
At 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 and 240 minutes the gut hormones
cholecystokinin (CCK-8), glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1), peptide YY
(PYY) and ghrelin, and appetite sensations were measured.
A wash-out period of one week separated each intervention day. CCK-8
was higher 30 min after pine nut FFA and 60 min after pine nut TG when
compared to placebo (p<0.01). GLP-1 was higher 60 min after pine nut
FFA compared to placebo (p<0.01).
Over a period of 4 hours the total amount of plasma CCK-8 was 60%
higher after pine nut FFA and 22% higher after pine nut TG then after
placebo (p<0.01).
For GLP-1 this difference was 25% after pine nut FFA (P<0.05).
Ghrelin and PYY levels were not different between groups.
The appetite sensation a prospective food intakea was 36% lower after
pine nut FFA relative to placebo (P<0.05).
This study suggests that Korean pine nut may work as an appetite
suppressant through an increasing effect on satiety hormones and a
reduced prospective food intake.

Pine cone tea .. ?

The jack pine produces "seratonous" (resin-filled) cones that are very
durable. The cones remain dormant until a fire occurs and melts the
resin. Then the cones pop open and the seeds fall or blow out.

Your garbage has absolutely nothing to do with either science or the
Scientific Method.
It is pretty pathetic when an advocate of Natural Health knows more
about the scientific method, researching PubMed, and the art of
communication than the current crop of science Geeks currently posting
on these so-called science ngs do.
Postings straight from PubMed are only interesting when they are being
used to support a point being made by a poster.
The wholesale dumping of abstracts from PubMed without preceding each
posting with a clearly articulated statement being presented by a
poster is a total waste of bandwidth, is an irritation, is nothing but
SPAM, Garbage, Crap, or any other totally negative connotation that
anybody might want to call it.
It positively ain't science. It is just pure laziness on your part,
with a good amount of mushy thinking skills thrown in.
I am not your Mommy, children. I know how to research PubMed. I am
glad that you know, too. But unless you explicitly point out the
conclusions that you are trying to make, I really do not to care to
see your crap floating in the science ng toilet bowl.
Please Science Geeks, learn to flush the toilet after each use.
Ironjusice, Jesus and Science used in the same sentence is an
oxymoron.
Just thought that you Dumb-a.ses might want to know, that I know more
about the scientific method than you do.

All that I ask for, is for each abstract dumping be preceded by at
least one paragraph of text explaining why the fool ironjustice is
post his garbage.

Mr Natural Health,
It's really not too much to ask for, now is it?
Major Tom -
Please do what Mr. Natural Health has asked.
It shouldn't take too much time nor energy for you....right?

It stands to reason.
It would also make sense to *finish* your meal with pine nuts (or
walnuts, or nuts in general), as people have been doing for ages. You
wouldn't want to kill your appetite in the middle of din-din! A little
fruit wouldn't hurt, either, and would wind up a meal much more sensibly
than any other sort of dessert.
Similarly, you don't want to *start* your meals with high glycemic-index
foods, but rather with traditional appetizers like antipasto and
vinaigrette -- small servings of fat or protein with a bit of fiber and
tartness -- as people also have been doing for ages. They stimulate
stomach acid production (but not insulin or cortisol) and retard gastric
emptying.
Long before over-the-counter medicines made bad eating habits possible,
people discovered ways of preventing indigestion.
