So many athletic people get fat as they get into the middle years of
their lives, why is this? Can I prevent or lessen this change by
eating more now while exercising and transitioning slowly from a very
active lifestyle to a relatively sedentary one by eating less as I
work out less?
Thanks

I have a feeling that in order to reduce your appetite, you have to
shrink your digestive tract, and the only way to do that is to eat less.
I found prolonged fasting to be the quickest way to quell my appetite,
and though I eat much less than I used to, I still have a few bad
kitchen habits, such as cooking a whole package of frozen food at once
or putting too much cereal in a bowl.  But at least I feel full with
smaller meals, don't crave food between meals, and have stopped eating
(or even wanting to eat) junk foods and sweets entirely.  The last
craving I got rid of was the most important: ice cream!  Now I can't
imagine even wanting the taste of it in my mouth.  Exercise has become
much easier, joint and muscle problems went away, and my endurance
especially has improved.  Though my hair started coming back during the
fast, it's falling out again.  I suspect it's a testosterone thing.

Note that this is purely anecdotal, which I'm sure isn't the sort of
answer you wanted, but I needed the typing practice.  ;-)
