My doctor prescribed a blood test to see why my iron level was
inadequate for blood donating.  I didn't see the doctor about it
because I walked away from my appointment after an hour wait and a
probable additional 20-30 minute wait after I was put into a room.
Anyway, the test was performed on the 6th day of my Master  Cleanse
Fast.

The  report came from two labs - one native and one out of town.  The
out of town report said my vitamin B12 was 1001 (limits are 211-911)
and my folic acid was 24 (limits 3.4-5.4).

The local report said my RBC  was 4.4 (limits 4.40-5.80.  Ironically,
the cure for low RBC is to increase B12 and folic acid.

I am female, 57 years old, and everything else is normal.

Do you think the strange result has something do do with not having
eaten in 6 days when the test was performed?

I take it this is a limited "fast" that includes some intake
beyond water? I'd suspect your being postmenopausal
may be playing a roll in your low RBC. That fact you
were in the clinic suggests you had or are having some
health problem. I'd certainly not schedule a lengthy fast
with lab tests in the face of a health problem.
Women tend to run lower than men on RBC as I recall.

Were you still taking your vitamins during the fast?

The fast included  8 glasses of water with 2 tablespoons of lemon or
lime juice and 2 tablespoons of real maple syrup (simple sugar ) and a
pinch cayenne mixed in. The fast is for a minimum of  10 days and can
extend to 40 days.  I did 10, so  I could eat on Thanksgiving.  I took
no vitamins other that what came with the lemon and maple syrup.  It
must have worked, because the rest of my blood test was completely
normal.

My only reason for being in the clinic was to procure a requisition
for my yearly mammogram and while I was there I asked about raising
my iron 1 day a month so I could donate blood.

I'd suspect the fasting may have speeded
the recycling of the RBC. You should get
hemogloblin and hematocrit taken when you've been
eating.
