sore throat

I've noticed that sodas (especially Coke) tend to make me feel a lot
better if I have a sore throat.  Is there any scientific reason for
this?

I think it's the carbonation of the soda that causes this.  I've
noticed this effect from just plain seltzer water.  But, it's only
temporary!
