I understand that fruit juice consumption should be limited, but what about
fresh fruits?  Assuming one eats an otherwise healthful balanced diet and is
not overweight, would eating, say, two large apples with skin daily add too
much carbs and fructose for good health?  What specifically would be the
health benefits?

So many misconceptions, so little time.

Go to my free web site and read my take on these kinds of questions

Assuming you are  not diabetic and are moderately active you have
nothing to fear from carbohydrates eaten in normal amounts.

Other than phyto nutrients, fruit is  a good source of soluble fiber and
apples are particularly fiber rich.  I would consume them without much
thought.

According to nutritiondata.com the glycemic load of apples with skin on
is about 5 which is low by their standards.

If you use their function to find better foods "for optimum health" for
example you will find the following fruits and fruit juices that they
rate higher.

I personally would eat a wide variety of fruit.

Fresh fruit is awesome!  You should eating, at least, a few servings
each and every day.  Besides common apples, try kiwis, blackberries,
star fruit, pomegranites and pummelos.  Variety is good!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with carbs, nothing.  The issue is
the source of the carbs.  Foods made from refined -- cheap processed
sugars & white flour -- are bad and should be limited.  Just like
cheap protein sources -- hotdogs, sausages, deep-fried meats, etc --
should be avoided.  But carbs from fruit, veggies and whole grains can/
should be eaten in abundance.
